Byron's Rock

Byron's Rock with a marble memorial of Lord Byron's quote  written in Greek "If I am a poet, I owe it to the air of Greece"   Byron used to sit here and write his poetry, and it is not far from his house. It doesn't look like it, but there's a steep drop down from here with houses below. (Couldn't resist sitting on his rock!)

John Murray's Parlor

Where literary gentlemen met -- the framed picture on the Bookcase shelf is a watercolor of this room -- Lord Byron and Sir Walter Scott are standing in almost  the same spot this photo was taken. (See below)  Also, the fireplace is the one that Lord Byron's memoirs were burned after his death in 1824.

Byron House, St. James Street, London

Where Byron lived in 1809 -- it's hard to see due to the reflection of the buiding across the street, but there is an etched profile of Byron in the glass above the doorway.

Albany House, London
Albany House, London

This is where Lord Byron lived in 1814 -- there is a plaque in the hallway, showing it was originally the resident of Duke of York, and then converted to Apartments -- Byron was in #2.

Location of White's Gentlemen's Club, St. James Street
( Very popular during Lord Byron's time )

St. James Palace

At the time I was here, these 19th century carriages waited in front.  A lot of people stood arround to see who would enter them.
