A Tale

Lord Byron

This tale was published in the 1807 edition of  Byron's Hours of Idleness.

In The Works of Lord Byron, the notes that pertained to Oscar of Alva, reads:

The catastrophe of this tale was suggested by the story of Jeronyme and Lorenzo in the first volume of Schiller's Armenian, or the Ghost-Seer.  It also bears some resemblance to a scene in the third act of Macbeth.
A fact of interest . . . about 15 years ago, Poland's internationally acclaimed composer, Marta Ptaszynska, received the Polish Radio and Television Composers Award for the TV opera, Oscar of Alva, based on Byron's poem.
