The
Waltz
by
Lord Byron
Byron first published this poem
Anonymously in 1813. During his time, in the Regency era, the
Waltz was the rage in Europe but not in Britain. In fact, its been
said, that the young debutante's making their "come out" in London,
could not accept an invitation to dance the waltz for the first time without
having received permission from one of the patrons of Almacks, and
the strictest rules of keeping a proper distance were observed. I'm
sure they would be shocked to see the dancing of this present century,
and Byron would have certainly composed a witty poem as he did for The
Waltz.
